Workshop Description

Looking to practice creating beautiful patterns while maintaining 3D form? Apples are as satisfying to draw as they are to eat! You will learn techniques combining colored pencil and watercolor to render a realistic fruit (that will make a delightful snack when you’re done!). We’ll work on a single fruit, as well as lay out a more complex composition with stem, leaves, and cut fruit. If you can, try to source a fruit with stem and leaves attached (but it’s also totally fine to pick up any fresh apple from your local market).

Our workshops include a set of pre-recorded videos for you to watch as you prepare for class, as well as recordings of each workshop session, delivered via email. We encourage collaboration and community, and we strive to create a safe virtual environment for everyone to draw together. We provide live demonstrations on the first day of a workshop and constructive critique of your work on the second day. ALL of the registration and video material for this workshop is delivered to you via email. Please be sure to add info@drawbotanical.com to your email contacts so that you do not miss correspondence from us!

Recommended Supplies: Our art supply guide

These are supplies that we recommend, but feel free to follow along with any supplies you have (your result may just end up looking a little different). Our lessons are about a combination of fundamental 3D art concepts and colored pencil and watercolor technique, so you can skip the supplies-specific tips and still learn a lot about perspective, light source, composition, etc. One of the main points we teach is colored pencil and watercolor technique for slow, continuous toning, but as long as you are able to achieve the same blending result with your chosen materials, you can still benefit from our course lessons.
